Here is also a pilot signaling flag shown in Znamierowski (2000), page 21, in a chart attributed to an unnamed book by J.W. Norie, augmented by J.S. Hobbs (1848) similar to the one shown in WNID as above, but with a gold border.

Bellin's 1756 chart shows a pilot signaling flag as red-white-red with coat of arms in the middle and bordered yellow.

This is in contrast to the war ensign where the coat of arms is offset to the hoist, the coat of arms is centred on the pilot flags.
