This  is not a flag!

by Jorge Candeias 5 August 1999

I located what look like Schladming (Austria) flag At: http://www.furano.or.jp/schladming/sche.html <broken link!> I do suspect it. It is not a local site and somehow I don't recall LOB's in Austria .

I suspect it is a kind of souvenir the city of Furano (Japan) got from the city of Schladming. It appears that those Schladmingers are more interested in skiing than in having their own flag. I found the COA at: http://www.aeiou.at/aeiou.encyclop.s/s234600.htm

Well, souvenir or no souvenir, it's a flag, right? So here it is.

What you can see on the page is not the flag of Schladming. I think it is a sticker, a souvenir. Furano in Japan is one of Schladmings partner cities.
Mario Siedler (tourist office of Schladming) 22 October 2001

Frequently, images found on the world wide web, are considered flags by some people, however with insufficient foundation. In many occasions these are just logos or other web-related graphics. Examples are the so-called "municipal flags" of Schladming and Weng bei Admont (both in Styria, Austria). The Schladming "flag" is just the image of a souvenir sticker.
These examples should be a serious warning to all those who seek the web for flag images: Don't be too sure that what you have found is a flag!
