Chittagong Hill Tracts is a mountain district where aborigine tribes live (ca 1.7 million people.) These animist of buddhist tribes remained isolated in the forsts, where they live from burn-and-slash agriculture. After the independence of Bangladesh, demographic pressure exerted by the lowlands inhabitants and tactless actions of the governments triggered insurrection "pockets". The government tryied to reduce them by force.
