Title: The Flag of the United States and State Flags,
Seals and Mottoes
Medium: book
Main author(s): Donald R.
Kennon;
Mary Lee Kerr
Edition (publisher:
place): The United States Capitol Historical Society:
Washinton (United States)
Language: English
Edition date: 1989 (no edition specified;
presumably first)
Pages: 40
Format: 22×14 cm
Weight: 55 g
Remarks:
It actually boasts on the cover: «Each state assigned
to a star in the U.S. flag» although, reading between the
lines on that, it implies that the authors have done the assigning,
rather than them displaying an official correlation between stars
and states. Since the book is put out by the US Capitol Historical
society, though, they should have known better.

A very good source.
André Burgers, Jan 2004
Only a small proportion of the book is about flags. Twenty page
chapter on British naval flags and at a guess something like 50 pages
on Royal Navy visual signalling (not all flags), in a 370 page book on
communications, mainly electronic.

Städtebuch is an effort to provide a comprehensive and
comparative account of all the cities in Germany. It has a (longish)
entry on every city divided into categories such as explanation of the
name, account of the history etc etc, and one of the subcategories is
on the coat of arms, the colours and the flag of the city.
The first edition was started in the thirties, and finished in 1974;
it consists of 11 different volumes, all out of stock. Lately a new
edition was begun of which the first two volumes
(1. Silesia, 1995, 490 pp; 2. Brandenburg and Berlin, 2000, 646 pp.)
have been published (by Kohlhammer).
The bibliographical details are listed on this
webpage, where there are also three sample entries available as
PDF files.
