About the Flag of Quissamã

The principal colors of the flag--blue, white, green, and yellow--are those of the national flag and symbolize Quissamã's patriotism and unity with all Brazil. In addition, they are given the following particular significance in the municipal flag:

  • Blue: the air and the tropical climate
  • White: the soil (presumably sand) of the littoral
  • Black: offshore petroleum deposits
  • Green: vegetation, especially the extensive pastures and sugar cane fields
  • Yellow: the sun, and the importance of its energy to the other elements
The composition depicts the rising of the sun from the maritime horizon, an event observed daily on the beaches of the municipality, which also symbolizes the dawn of the community of Quissamã.
