With 333,255 km2, this might be the world's largest
municipality. I saw the logo in December 2000 for the first time and an image
of the flag in November 2002. The sky represents the space and the magnificent
aurora borealis in the Nordic sky. The lightning bolts recalls the
hydroelectric installations and the green color signifies the forest, taiga
and terrestrial fauna. The waves represent the waterways and aquatic fauna.
The triangles recall the different origins of the population: autichtonous and
allochtonous (i.e., non autochtonous). Finally, in the center, a snowy owl
represents this fascinating northern territory rather well. (Note: the snowy
owl is also Quebec's official bird emblem).
