City flag

Adopted October 7, 2002, the flag of Ville de Saguenay is white with a special version of the logotype centered. The logotype consists of the words Ville de placed over the letters a and g of the word Saguenay that is in a larger font size. All three words are blue. Three curves of blue, red and green (from top to bottom) normally underline the S and a letters of Saguenay as an extension of the g, but on the flag, these curvy underlines are centered under the word Saguenay to give the design a more fitting rectangular shape.

The Pantone specifications of the colors are reflex blue, red PMS-187 and green PMS 576. Translated from municipal documentation: "A regional capital, the city of Saguenay is a collectivity of citizens turned towards the future, the determination of which is equal to its desire of fully assuming its rank among the most important municipalities in the country. The set of elements in its logotype forms a distinctive signature which, while setting it apart, is perfectly in line with that of the great North American cities. The movement of the lines ensures a unified dynamic of the three boroughs converging towards a new economical, social and cultural horizon that will ensure its durability. The three curves symbolize the communication axes of the new municipality.

The colors also play an important role in the logo's meaning. Blue represents water, important to Saguenay's history, but is also an allusion to the various transportation and communication networks. Red is a demonstration of the dynamism, the ardor, the compatibility and the warm nature that characterizes the citizens of Ville de Saguenay. Green recalls the desire to make the (primary, secondary or tertiary) economy grow in a lasting development schema; it also underscores the importance given to the forest and agriculture, while advertising the priority given to environment and tourism."

The designer was L'Imprimerie ICLT, based in the city. The city of Saguenay resulted from the merger in 2002 of the municipalities of Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie, Lac-Kénogami, Laterrière, Shipshaw and a part of Canton Tremblay.
