Overview

In May 1856, the Grenadine Confederation was created with eight member states (then sovereign states): Antioquía, Bolívar, Boyacá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Istmo (Panama), Magdalena and Santander. Confederal government ratified the New Granada Republic's national, merchant and naval flags.

The States

Sovereign states were quicly created. The first one was Istmo, that was converted into state of Panama in 1855, ratified in 1856. Antioquia was created on 1 June 1856.  Bolivar and Cundinamarca were created on early 1857, Boyaca, Cauca on 15 June 1857. Magdalena and Santander were created in 1857 but I dont have the dates.
Those states used flags of their own with the arms of the confederation in a oval, with the name of the state. Color of the oval border was probably red and letters were probably golden but also argent is possible . Lucien Phillipe draw the oval with inscription "Estado de ...." but it seems that this is a mistake or missinterpretation and the correct writing must be "Estado soberano de...."  as appear in post stamps.
