Beroun is the centre of Beroun okres in Středočeský region. It used a flag with two horizontal stripes, white and blue. I first saw this flag in 1997.

The bear in the gate is a canting element, Beroun meaning bear. The knight holds a shield with the arms of Bohemia, indicating that the city was a fortress in Bohemia.
