Number of inhabitants by 1.1. 2002: 588. This village was first mentioned in 1278 in connection with foundation of Markvartice. Foundation of Bretnov is dated back to 1380-1390. On 24 September 1949 Markvartice and Bretnov were incorporated into one village named Široká Niva. In 1640 the village named Skrbovice was founded. Skrbovice was included into Široká Niva on 1 January 1960. The local settlement named Pocheň was founded about 1620. This settlement was always a part of Široká Niva.
