Number of inhabitants by 31.12. 2000: 6415. Vítkov was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century, but the first  written trace dated back to 1301. Throughout years, the village, including the nearby Vik¹tejn castle and surroundings, was in possession of different owners. People were mostly farmers and craftsmen (in particular, weaving). This gave a basis for industrial works. Slate was mined and processed in the surroundings of Vítkov. After World War II, German population was dislocated.
