This added a golden shield, fimbriated white, in the center with a black eagle holding a white scroll with the inscription Einigkeit Recht Freiheit (Unity Law Freedom). This motto stems from the third stanza of the German national anthem, that is also nowadays national anthem — Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit für das deutsche Vaterland.
