Description

Gardelegen is located in the Altmark, an area in the north of Saxony-Anhalt (the county is Altmarkkreis Salzwedel). The city uses a red-green banner with the arms. The eagle is the Brandenburgian one, as the Altmark (German for 'old mark') was the oldest possession of Brandenburg. The plants are hops. Source: Günther 1996a.
