Description

The city of Menden also kept its symbols when several other communes were integrated into it in 1974. The earliest notice of the arms (a tower with gate and portcullis) is from 1326. The colours changed several times: in 1700 they were gold/red, later white/red. In 1911 they were changed to white/black, recalling the colours of Cologne.
