Description

I have an image of flag of Sylt island, but the quality isn't overly good. Also I am not sure about my source.

Dirk Schönberger, 10 September 1999

I doubt that this is a flag of Sylt. I have been there several times, and there were a lot of flags. But this one was never there as far as I remember. The island flag of Sylt is in the East Frisian colours with a fish and a motto.

Ralf Stelter, 7 March 2001

The described flag is the flag of Kampen, a village on the island Sylt. Its coat of arms is a silver six-leafed beach thistle on a blue background. The flag consists of nine evenly sized wave stripes in blue and white. The arms are in the canton, overlapping the upper five stripes. The coat of arms was confirmed by the Schleswig-Holstein state government on January 31st 1979, the flag was confirmed on October 16th 1979. Arms were designed by Mr. Hans Eickert, the flag was designed by H. F. Kühne, an artist in Barsbüttel, near Hamburg. Source: van Heijningen 1998 [available online here]. The article describes flags for 4 communities on Sylt, but no generic flag for the entire island. I also checked the websites of several North German flag stores; none of them offers a Sylt flag.
