Introduction

In 1977 the struggle for autonomy and the discussion about symbols started again. (...) The left-wing parties supported variations of the Catalan flag (...). Andalan, a left-wing magazine, organized a contest with five finalists:

  1. [yellow with horizontal red stripes, on a white hoist stripe a red cross]
  2. [yellow with vertical red stripes, on a white hoist stripe a red cross]
  3. the same as the proposal of the Aragon Democratic Party
  4. the Catalan flag
  5. the Catalan flag with the arms (but without the crown)
