Description

Flag of the island of El Hierro ("Iron island"). It can be used with a little shield in the point of the triangle between the two horizontal stripes.

Jaume Ollé, 4 November 1996

The island's correct name is El Hierro, with article (as in La Palma and La Gomera), and cannot be translated as "Iron Island", since the name's origin, though doubious and controversial, seems to derive from the aboriginal language: Hero or Erero.

José Manuel Erbez, 20 December 1999
