Presentation of the proposals

In Fahnen, Flags, Drapeaux (Proceedings of the XVth International Congress of Vexillology, Zurich, 23-27 August 1993 [icv93]), there is a paper by Carole Lager entitled Le drapeau européen, histoire et symbolisme (The European flag, history and symbolism) [lag99].
Lager's paper includes a colour plate showing proposals for the European flag, originally published by P.M.G. Lévy and P. Martin, as Un drapeau pour l'Europe (A flag for Europe) in Saisons d'Alsace, 1950, #3.

The two first flags showed on the plate are those of the two private European movements which existed in 1950:

The other proposals shown on the colour plate are unfortunately not discussed by C. Lager and will be presented below and in Part II without further comments but a short description.

Proposals, part I

Proposal #1by Ivan Sache

Proposal #1 is a plain green flag.

Proposal #2by Ivan Sache

Proposal #2 has four horizontal blue-green-yellow-black stripes and a triangle horizontally divided into two equal white-red parts placed along the hoist.

Proposal #3 is blue with a white triangle bordered in black placed in the middle of the flag.

Proposal #4 is quartered red-blue-green-yellow by a thick white cross.
