Description of the flag

Basic facts about Vianne:

1200 inhabitants, canton of Lavardac, arrondissement of Nérac, departement of Lot-et-Garonne, region of Aquitaine.
Formerly Vilalonga (in French Villelongue), Viana (occitan name) was founded as a bastide (fortified city) by Jourdain de l'Isle, and named from his wife's name, Viana of Gontaud-Biron. A good part of the walls are still visible.

The flag is a banner of arms. The yellow-and-red chequy quarters represent the colors of the Gontaud family. In the Lot-et-Garonne departement the city of Gontaud-de-Nogaret has these arms
The other two quarters represent the powers who faught for the control of the city : Languedoc (the cross) and "England". This leads me to see the coat of arms and the derived banner of arms as recent ones, due to the use of England instead of Guyenne (one leopard only) which was the real power.

The flag flies on two places on the city walls.
