Presentation of Marfret

The company Marseille-Fret was founded in 1951 in Marseilles by Claude Vidil and Pierre Giraud. In its early years, the company operated general cargo and tramp ships to Algeria and Tunisia. In the 1970s, the company opened agencies in Paris, Rouen and Dunkirk, and served seven ship lines to Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, the Middle-East and the Red Sea.
In 1980, Marseille-Fret abandoned the Mediterranean Sea and operated container and ro-ro ships to the French Antilles and French Guyana. These Atlantic lines were extended to Canada in 1984.

The company was restructured in 1987 and became the line operator Compagnie Maritime Marfret, serving lines from the Meditarranean Sea to the Caribbean islands, later (1989) to the Indian Ocean, and, more recently, to Algiers (1998).
