The flag consists of the arms in gold on a red over white field.
The club colours are actually red and white, with black as an extra colour to
distinguish United from all the other clubs that wear red and white. The
official club flag (or the 1998 version at least) can be seen at

where it is simply red with 'Manchester' in white, over white, with 'United' in
red.
