LARNE could soon be on the 'crest' of a wave as far as promotion of the port in the United States is concerned. For the town's twin district of York County in South Carolina is to use the borough crest on T-shirts promoting both areas. The local council has given approval to the move, which comes following a request from their counterparts to use the crests of York and Larne on promotional items such as golf shirts. When the chairman of York County Council, Mike Short, visits Larne next year he will also be presented with a specially commissioned Larne flag to be flown in York. The twinning has developed over several years and school links between the area's four secondary level schools and schools in York County are also being planned. Local businesses have already staged a number of visits to the Carolinas to market their products there.
