Overview

Boat flags are square, with white Greek letters on a blue field.

The specifications for the size of the letters are the following:

  • height is 5/11 of the flag width
  • width is 3/11 of the flag width
  • downstroke width is 4/55 of the flag width.

Source: Flaggenbuch (1939-1941) [neu], so the ensigns might be outdated.

Ivan Sache, 5 February 2000

The letters are probably the initials of the service Greek names, for instance L(ambda) from Limani (port) and Y(psilon) from Ygiia (Health - origin of the word hygiene).

Herman De Wael, 18 July 1999
