by António Martins, 04 Aug 2004

Bissau city had until (at least) 1975, year of the independence of Guinea-Bissau, a municipal flag similar to those of portuguese municipalities, with the golden mural crown given to overseas province capitals. The flag was gyronny of black and red and the coat of arms was argent a tower gules flanked by to Native’s heads (turned to the middle — how is it in heraldese?) proper dressed and “lipped” gules. White scroll with "CIDADE DE BISSAU" in black capitals.
