Orehovica is a community a few kilometers south-east of
Cekovec, along Drava river between Nedelice and Prelog. The
village of Orehovica has about 1,700 inhabitants, the whole
community not more then 3,000. It was created in 1997 by
seceeding from the communty of Mala Subotica to the north of it.
The symbols were adopted sometime in April 2002 as described in
the local newspapers: "Orah na grb i zastavu
Orehovice", Medimurje - upanijske novine, br. 2458,
04.06.2002, <www.medjimurje.com>
"Proslavljen Dan opcine Orehovica" (21.svibnja),
Medimurske novine, br. 352, 05.06.2002, <www.mnovine.hr>.
The newspapers namethe designer - Heraldik art d.o.o. from
Rijeka. The design is described and shown in photos, but always a
bit hazy so I have no clear image to start from. Therefore my
drawings of the coat of arms and the flag are reconstructions
probably not very good. (The valnut on my drawings is taken from
Corel Clipart galery, just as good representation as any I could
draw.)
The coat of arms of Orehovica is canting (since 'orah',
regionally 'oreh' means valnut) and is very simple and effective:
argent a valnut proper The flag is light blue with the coat of
arms in the middle, bordered yellow.
The photos in the cited soruces show also something that looks
like a vertical banner set against the wall, blue with the coat
of arms in the middle and black inscriptions above in two rows
"DAN OPCINE/OREHOVICA" and below "21.
SVIBNJA" (?), meaning 'The Day of the Community of
Orehovica, 21st May'. However, I do not think that it is a
ceremonial
flag or anything like, only a decoartion in the hall where the
ceremony was held.
