City Flag

The coat of arms is Azure an hawk displayed proper holding a tower argent roofed goles. The flag is light blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle.
The tower is representation of the 14th century three-storey Gothic chapel of St. Mary, part of the Sokolac castle around which Brinje was formed. The hawk (sokol) is canting the name of the castle.
Brinje was important medieval fortified city held by Frenkopan family. Today Brinje is a community with some 6,000 inhabitants, 2,000 of which are in the place of the same name, the center of the community. It is some 60 km north of Gosip, on once improant road passing from the hinterland through the Kapela pass towards the coast in Senj. The new highway that is being built currently shall surely bring much needed prosperity to Brinje (should be finished in two years).
