Overview

Kostrena is a small but rich community just south of Rijeka. It seceeded from Rijeka in 1994 (i.e. very soon after the new administrative reform "forget" it). It is heavily industrialized suburb of Rijeka and includes important prosperous ports and shipyards. This is indicated with a ship in the Coat of Arms: Azure a lymphad or with a sail argent and a masthead pennant gules. The flag is blue with golden bordered coat of arms in the middle.
There is also a Ceremonial Flag used, a blue vertical gonfalon with the golden bordered coat of arms in the middle, the name of the community above in two arches and ornamentally wattled strings under the shield.
The reference to the decision: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opcine Kostrena, 28. svibnja 1996, Službene
novine Primorsko-goranske županije, br 25/96, 4. studenoga 1996.
