Overview

City of Kraljevica, Primorsko-goranska zupanija, Croatia - The city of Kraljevica is located at the south edge of Bakar bay is easter part of Kvarner, near the point where the island of Krk is closest to the coast. The city is located at a very good natural harbor point. It is populated in 15th century, and at first named Portorium, meaning the "customs place", latter corrupted to "Porto Re" - royal port, or in Croatian version which is in use since early
17th century - Kraljevica. The roads from inland reach the coast at this point, and in middle 18th centry a military shipyard was build here. In the 1993 reform Kraljevica lost status of a city (bacame community), but it was regained in 1997.
The coat of arms of Kraljevica is already mentioned in pre-WWI sources, so it must have been granted by Austrian emperors. It was recently (re)adopted, together with the accompanying flag. The coat of arms in canting, refering to the Italian name of the city: Azure, an Anchor Or ensigned by a Crown.
