Cernik is a community in the Brod-Posavina County under the
Psunj mountain, due north of Nova
Gradiska, some 60 km west of Slavonski
Brod. It has somewhat less the 5,000 inhabitants, some 2000
living in the main settlement of the community. (It is, of
course, not the same as the place of the same name in the Cavle
Community, near Rijeka.)
According to Tihomir Podkornjak, the webmaster of <www.cernik.web1000.com>
the symbols were adopted in 17 October 2002. Before that an
unofficial shield-like emblem was used, still appearing at the
site above.
The coat of arms is azure an acorn and in chief two keys in
saltire with the wards down outwards all or.
The keys refer to St. Peter, the patron of the parish, and the
acorn is canting since the name of the place is derived from the
archaic word cer meaning oak. The flag is light blue
with the coat of arms in the middle bordered goden.
The ceremonial flag is dark blue with the coat of arms in the
middle, the name of the community in two arcs above and three
triangul
