Glina is a city in Banovina (Banija, a hilly region south of
Sisak), about 20 km southwest of Sisak.
The city was built as a military fort in 17th century (I think)
defending from the Turks, at the confluence of the Maja river
into the Glina river. The military organized city at the
confluence is still visible in the city landscape and is also
shown in the coat of arms withing the red border. I believe that
the coat of arms may have been adoptede around 1995, but alow for
a big marigin in that estimation. Glina was "promoted"
from a community to a city in 1997, which may be date when the
symbols were adopted. Then again, it may be that the coat of arms
was not aproved by the Ministery, so they would be unofficial.
The flag is blue with the coat of arms in the middle. I have it
reported only as the vertical flag, but it is quite probable that
a horizontal verision may also be found. (The preference of the
vertical flag for the County flag may be influencing the
preference for the vertical flag here, too).
