Overview

Benkovac is a city in Zadar County some 15 km inlands south-east of Zadar. It was given the city status in 1997, before was a community. During the Serb occupation it was probably the second biggest city in "Republika Srpska Krajina" (Republic of Serbian Krajina). It was liberated in 1995.
The on-line copy of the county official gazette at <www.zadarska-zupanija.hr>, contains a decision on grant of the permition to use the coa of Benkovac (to the local kick-boxing club): Odluka o davanju suglasnosti za uporabu grba Grada Benkovca, 19. prosinca 2002., Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, br. 1/2003.
There the original decision on the Coat of Arms and flag from 1999 is reffered to: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Benkovca, Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, broj 1/1999;
Unfortunately, at the moment the 1999 issues of the gazette are not available.

A visitor to FAME, Tomislav Zečević, sent me a scan of some local document, whose header include nice image of the coat of arms. The coat of arms of Benkovac is Azure a semi griffin rampant or issunat from the base holding in the claws a branch vert with three leaves and a lily flower argent.

Tomislav Zečević reported also a photo of the flag at <www.benkovac.com>. The flag is blue with the coat of arms bordered yellow in the middle.
