Stupnik - Community in 'Zagrebacka zupanija', formed in 1995
by extracting from the City of Zagreb (at the time with status of
a county). Being close to Zagreb, and yet not affected by the
higher taxes there, and also several important highways from
Zagreb towards coast passing through it, it is a prosperous small
new community.
It is usual in Croatia that the cities and communities have the
same name as their seat of administration (their
"capital"), however there are some exceptions. Such is
the case of Stupnik, with seat of administration in a village (or
small town) called Donji Stupnik.
The coat of arms is: Azure, a column Argent enarched with five
Mullets [of Six] Or. The coat of arms is canting - 'stup' meaning
a column, while the five stars are presumably for the five
settlements forming the community (though, the official lists I
have count them only four).
The flag is blue (medium blue) with the coat of arms (of
noticeably lighter blue shade) in the middle bordered with
yellow.
The coat of arms and the flag are presumably adopted in late
1990's - they certainly follow the Croatian rules for the
adopting of new symbols. My image is based on a photo I took of
the flag hoisted on the community building in Donji Stupnik on 26
June 2000, and on several official notes showing the coat of
arms. The accuracy of my drawing is somewhat lower the usual (let
say 'fair'), since I made drawing for a photo of a flying flag
