Description

Qiriat Mal'achi (or Kiriat Mal'akhi, meaning town of my angel, the name of a prophet) is situated near a major road cross (Zomet Akhim (meaning 'Brothers Cross' better known by its previous Arabic name, Kastina Cross) of roads 3 (Ashqelon-Jerusalem) and 40 (To Be'er Sheva), 59 km north to Be'er Sheva. It belongs to South District, Ashqelon Sub-District. Established in 1950 as temporary new immigrants settlement named Kastina and renamed in 1958 to its current name. It appeared as Local Council in the 1993 map, but was later upgraded to rank of municipality. An item worth mentioning is that Qiryat Malakhi is the hometown of Israeli President Mr Moshe Katzav (formerly also its Mayor).

I spotted unofficial flags with the emblem in natural colours on white, black emblem on yellow and blue emblem on light blue. There could be other variants too. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot, Yalkut ha-Pirsumim), YP 792, 21 September 1960, for the then Local Council. Sources: author's own ob
