According to a piece in today's Yedioth Akhronot daily, the flag of
the proposed Jewish state in Mizoram is white with two blue stripes charged with
a lion, olive branches and the word "Jerusalem". The name of the proposed state
is "New Jerusalem" and its capital will be Aizwal. According to this piece,
DNA tests proved that the people of "Kuki" (sp?) and "Lusay" (sp?) tribes are
from Jewish origin and related to the Jewish population of Uzbekistan. The piece
also reported that they addressed the UN in 1998 and also asked for recognition
from Israel. Israel is giving cultural support, but won't give any political
support unless approved by the Indian government.

Expanding a bit on this subject, the original article from the Indian magazine "The Week" of September 12, 2004 entitled "New Jerusalem" and presenting a small image of the proposed flag of the would-be country of the Menashe People - New Jerusalem. The flag is practically the same as the flag of the city of Jerusalem, except the lighter shade of blue and the shield being moved closer to the hoist. Further, the most important political party of the Mizoram Menashe People - Ephraim Union Party - uses as its symbol the Israeli flag. I have the photographs of the campaign rally of Ms. Eliza
