Overview

The flag of the City of Cassino , which looks like a square Banner of Arms, was located in <www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Senate/1490/index.html>.

Il Gonfalone del Comune - decorato con Medaglia d'oro al Valor Militare. (City's Flag - decorated with Military Golden Medal) - according to this website.
Cassino is a commune in Frosinone province, Latium. Anyway: the gonfalone looks deceptively like a flag .

This coat of arms was created by the sculptor Tamagnini in 1928, inspired by a seal of 1745 actually in the State Archive of Naples. In this seal, and in another of 1777 the stars had 6 points. Tamagnini designed the 5 points-stars because thought they seem more modern. The work of this artist was destroyed during II World War in 1944. The nine stars are an ancient simolysm which hints to the nine communes of the Circondario of San Germano (=the estate of Montecassino Abbey). The motto of this city is “Fidelissima Civitas S.Germany” (=city faithful to Saint Germanus). Saint Germanus is on of the two saint protector of this city; other is the most famous Saint Benedict.
