Description of the flag

The blue stands for cleanness, freshness and intelligence and also represents international city of Osaka where people can have access from sky and sea. Osaka is called water city in Japan because it has a lot of rivers and faces two seas which blue colour also represents.

Osaka changed the background of the flag in April 1984. Currently this is blue.

White stylized three gourds and an initial of the prefecture (O) on green field. White stands for infinite possibility and green for freshness and vitality. The gourds are symbol of Taikou who founded commercial city of Osaka and three ones represent hope, harmony and prosperity. Adopted 1968-06-21.
