Osaka Shosen Kaisha. Some sources incorrectly give
a blue field to the flag prior to the 1930s but it has always been white as
shown. Dating from 1884 it formed part of the 1964 merging resulting in Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

Sanko Kisen K.K. Formed 1934. Going by the emblem
shown on the funnel of "Sanko Laurel" 8.12.98 the red circles of the
target are of different widths, the outer being narrow and the inner two
progressively wider. Brown 1982 and 1995 show a different flag of 4 white and 3
red horizontal bands, the 2 white inner bands being narrower, with overall the
red bands and merging the red "target" but this is incorrect and this
flag is that of Sanko Asia Line Ltd. which in 1997 became Sakura Shipping Co.
Ltd. The actual thickness of the bands of this latter flag are not certain and I
am unsure whether it was retained after the name change.

From: Boone Scripophily:
Text: "Share of 500 Yen. blue, yellow, red, black. Unusually large vignette for a Japanese share, showing early Japanese sailing ships at sea, and the company flag. (...) Extremely rare piece." Date of issue, 1917.
The design is in tune with many other Japanese house flags of that period,
however, the western 'S' is rather striking.

Shinnihon Kisen K.K. formed 1947 as a
re-establishment of Tatsuuma Kisen K.K. with the name equating to New Japan
Steamship Co. Ltd., merging 1964 into Yamashita-Shinnihon Kisen K.K. The flag is
taken from the funnel bands of the previous company.
