According to Nehmé 1995, "It consisted of a cross and a sword, both white, on a red cloth."

The sword pointing to the left makes me wonder whether the image illustrates the Arabic obverse —with the hoist on the right hand side— cf. Saudi Arabian flag, where the sword points to the fly on both sides, the Kingdom of Yemen flag etc.
