Navigation Company." I would assume Comanav is the French acronym for
the same name.

The company was founded as the Compagnie Franco-Chérifienne de Navigation (CFCN) in 1946. The epithet "chérifien" refers to the Arab word "charif", the title given to a Moslim prince descending from Muhamat by Ali and Fatima.
