"Spanish shield, party per pale. On azur, castle of gold, towered, masoned of sable, and "cleared" of gules. On sinople, a lion rampant of gold, "lampasse" of gules and armed of the same. The whole over a mantling with an open royal crown at the top. The badge "Muy Noble Y Muy Leal Ciudad de Merida" (Most Noble and Most Loyal City of Merida) of sable on gold."
