Hengelo (seat), Bekveld, Dunsborg, Gooi, Keijenborg, Noordink, Varssel,

Hengelo (Gelderland) is not to be confused with Hengelo
(Overijssel). Name probably derived from 'eng' (communal land) and
'lo' (wood). It's in the Achterhoek, c. 20 km north of Doetinchem. Since
1658 it was famous for its horse-markets.
The new flag, adopted 6 Feb 1972 has completely included the CoA -
another canting flag ((h)engel = angel). The horn of plenty symbolizes
the agrarian character of the municipality.
Jarig Bakker, 29 September 1999
The adopted flag for Hengelo-Gelderland, a Sierksma-design, is 'In blue
the boy of the arms (on 1/3L) with his cornucopia, at the hoist as well
as the fly a white triangle'
See Vexilla Nostra VIII-nr.56-p.62, VN XX-nr.140-p.181 and VN.XXIII-nr.156-p.55.
