Gennep is in north Limburg in former Opper Gelre, on the Maas river.
It is a rural municipality with nice scenery. In 1973 Ottersum was merged
with Gennep; the village of Heijel was transferred from Bergen
to Gennep.
The old (unofficial) flag was horizontally green over white; the present
flag is derived from the CoA; the objects are sheep-shears, reminding of
the woolly past; the CoA was already in use by the Lords of Gennep in 1458.
