The yellow items on the flag are grains of buckwheat. In olden times
this was heather-country, in which many sheep grazed. On sheep-dung buckwheat
is florishing, and that was the staple food of the old Hilversumers. Since
the beginning of the 20th century no buckwheat, heather or sheep can be
found here, except perhaps in radio- and TV-studios. See also Bussum.
The CoA was already known in the 17th century.
