The flag of Haaksbergen was adopted by the municipal council on 21 Mar 1962. The red color is derived from the municipal arms; the blue color symbolizes the Buurserbeek.

The upside-down pentagram may be a reflection of the old structure of the former judiciary of Haaksbergen with the marks Buurse, Langelo, Brammelo, Boekelo, and the combined mark of Holthuizen,Stepelo,Eppenzolder - the points of the star - and the mark of Honesch (including the village of Haaksbergen) in the center.
