Population (1 Jan 2003): 45.034; area: 22,77 km². Settlements: Zwijndrecht (seat), Heerjansdam, Kleine-Lindt.
On 1 Jan 2003 the old municipality of Heerjansdam became part of Zwijndrecht.

On the occasion of the jubilee of Queen Wilhelmina's 40 years reign, on 6 Sep 1938, at sunset a parade was held in front of the Palace of the Dam in Amsterdam, in which all municipalities would participate. Zwijndrecht didn't have a flag, so the department of Public Works of Zwijndrecht, in collaboration with their colleagues from Dordrecht designed a flag, fulfilling the required 1.50 x 2.25 meters. On 7 Aug 1961 written confirmation was received from the High Council of Nobility, that the Zwijndrecht flag had ben registered.
