Description of the flag

Azure, three ships Or seen from front. Adopted by local government 15 March 1978. Three ships stands for three parts of municipality: Sunnmøre, Romsdall and Nordmøre. Additional symbolic are crosses that are seen on the masts.
Željko Heimer, 19 November 1995

Status of the flag

The arms of Møre og Romsdal were not officially approved, and so the county has no right to fly a flag. However, they do it anyway. The flag is said to be a white field with the shield in the middle.
Jan Oskar Engene, 19 November 1995

Many counties - and some cities as well - do not pay any attention to the law that prohibit counties and municipalities from flying other flags than those officially approved. The law was amended only a year ago to allow the flying of the Sami flag, but this has not affected the practice of flying flags that lack official sanction.
Jan Oskar Engene, 6 August 2004
