New Zealand Railways

Old NZ railways flag
by António Martins, 21 May 1999

I have a feeling I have seen such a flag (white background, the logo just above the centre, with "New Zealand Railways" written underneath) used during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Not sure exactly when it came into existence (I'd guess about 1973).
James Dignan, 4 September 1997

From memory this looks right.

Tranz Rail

New Zealand Rail was corporatised in 1991, privatised in 1993, and re-named Tranz Rail (not TraNZrail) in 1995.
Michael Mellor, 1 October 2000

New Zealand Railways is no more, having been ‘corporatised’ as Tranzrail. Not sure exactly when that change took place, but I'd guess sometime around 1995.
James Dignan, 27 May 1999

It has a flag too; I've seen it flying. I can’t remember it exactly, but it's based on the design at their website (http://www.tranzrail.co.nz), both the logo and the background. I can’t remember whether it had any text on it or not.
Thomas Robinson, 22 May 1999

New Zealand railways' (Tranz Rail) new ferry which has just been launched in Vigo, Spain, will operate between the North and South Islands of New Zealand, flying the flag of the Bahamas.
