About the flag

It’s flag is a plain blue flag with the municipal coat of arms in the center. The coat of arms features 3 wavy lines below of silver-green-silver, a red tower with a blue door on a black hill and in chef the traditional symbols of Algarve: a christian king and a moor king, all in a silver background. Above the shield, a four-towered mural crown and below a scroll reading "VILA DE ALJEZUR". A recent source shows many differences in the charges of the shield.
Jorge Candeias, 21 May 1998

I’d say that the waves represent the sea and the kings represent Algarve.
