About the flag

The flag is blue and the coat of arms is remarkably unusual: the shield is samnitic, so-called french style, and instead of a scroll its surrounded by a golden garland. The charges of the coat of arms are: azure fimbriated argent, a castle argent litten gueles, with two ravens sable perched passant in the side towers, between a crescent pointing downwards over a sun, dexter and, sinister, the inverse composition, all over something (yoke?) argent with two roundels sable.
António Martins, 27 Oct 1998

Version without the coat of arms

Plain (monocolored) portuguese subnational flags are not allowed to have armless variations: plain flags always carry the coat of arms.
Jorge Candeias, 18 Jul 1999
