About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a background quarterly (meaning town rank) of white and red. The coat of arms is gules, a castle or masoned sable, door and windows sable, with a tree vert on each of the lateral towers, flanked by two eight pointed stars argent, and between two millstones argent, each perched of a bird of the same, in point three plane leaves or lined sable. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE PORTO DE MÓS".
António Martins, 31 Jul 1999

"Porto de Mós" means "Millstone Harbour", so these arms show partial canting.
António Martins, 29 Aug 2001
